A Ton of Anime News Dropped Over the Holidays
The Christmas holidays present a wealth of activities much better than scanning the latest news: unwrapping gifts, indulging in holiday treats, and employing deep breathing to refrain from yelling at family members. I hope you were able to enjoy all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy developments surfaced over the break, and should you didn't see any, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Set to Continue (In 2027)
Truly the most shocking announcement, the notorious controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will come back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a positive development. However, the key visual for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, at this point, they could be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series showed it maintained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now the community is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was yet another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.

One more studio known for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.
