Democratic lawmakers Criticize Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party expressed outrage after former President Donald Trump alleged a contingent of Democratic representatives of being "traitors" and asserted they should be detained and sentenced "with execution" following their posting of a controversial video.

The Content That Sparked the Controversy

The video footage, published on earlier this week, includes six Democratic lawmakers who previously worked in armed forces or defense positions.

"As we did, you all took an pledge to protect and support this constitution," the representatives affirmed in the short video. "Currently, the dangers to our governing document don't only come from overseas, but from domestically. Our statutes are clear, you can decline illegal orders, you can refuse improper directives, you have to refuse improper directives. No one has to follow directives that violate the legal system or our national charter."

The Former President's Angry Reaction

The video message reportedly trigger a heated reaction from the former president.

On later in the week, Trump wrote on his social media platform: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional message, he wrote: "This represents really bad, and Harmful to our Country. Their words cannot be allowed to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third publication, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also redistributed a comment that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Leaders React

Following Trump's statements on Thursday, House Democratic leader published a combined announcement denouncing the comments.

"Political violence has no place in America," they wrote. "Representatives who appeared in the video all worked our country with exceptional patriotism and excellence. We clearly censure Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous threats of violence against elected officials, and urge Republican lawmakers to forcefully do the same."

The Democratic leaders also stated that they had been in contact with protective services "to guarantee the safety of these representatives and their families."

"Donald Trump must immediately take down these radical online messages and withdraw his violent rhetoric before he gets someone killed," the statement stated.

Lawmakers' Firm Answer

The lawmakers who appeared in the video also released a declaration.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and security experts who value this United States and made an vow to safeguard and defend the founding document of the United States," they declared. "That oath lasts a lifetime, and we intend to keep it. No intimidation, pressure, or promotion of aggression will prevent us from that sacred obligation."

"The most revealing aspect is that the former president views it punishable by capital punishment for us to repeat the statutes," they stated. "Military personnel should know that we have their protection as they carry out their oath to the founding principles and responsibility to follow only proper directives. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our obligation."

They added: "The entire nation must come together and censure the ex-president's demands for our execution and ideological conflict. This is a moment for ethical certainty."

Further Political Comments

The Opposition leader also censured Trump's comments and published on digital platforms: "It's important to understand: the ex-commander in chief is calling for the capital punishment of elected officials."

He added: "This is an clear THREAT. All senators, every Representative, the entire nation – irrespective of political affiliation – should censure this without delay and unconditionally."

The Conservative official supported Trump's allegation that the Democrats had been involved in "treason", characterizing the video as "extremely improper", stating: "This represents very risky, you have leading members of Congress advising troops to disobey orders, I think that represents historic in US history."

The Republican leader also allegedly informed media outlets that in what he reviewed of Trump's publications, Trump was "describing the offense of treason" but that "lawyers have to analyze the terminology and establish all that."

Executive Branch Reaction

During a executive branch meeting on later that day, when inquired by a journalist, "Is the president want to put to death congressional representatives?", the White House press secretary replied: "No."

"We should understand about what the ex-commander in chief is responding to," the spokesperson said. "There are current representatives of the American legislature who coordinated to orchestrate a video message to individuals of the US military, to serving soldiers encouraging them to ignore the commander in chief's legal commands."

She added: "The integrity of our armed forces relies on the chain of command, and if that chain of command is broken, it can lead to fatalities, it can lead to confusion, and that is exactly what these members of Congress ... are basically encouraging."
