"Our thoughts are with him and our care for him as he faces this."

Portland additionally won their first game after the detentions, with Brazilian Splitter taking over as interim coach in Billups' absence and guiding the team to a convincing 139-119 victory against the Warriors.

"Everyone experienced positive times with Billups and how he coached," Splitter said. "We're thinking of him and his loved ones but our focus is on the game."

League Commissioner Silver 'Disturbed' over Recent Events

Speaking about the arrests for the initial occasion, league head Adam Silver stated he was "very upset" by the events of the recent days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and supporters than the fairness of the game," he informed Amazon Prime. "Therefore I felt uneasy. It was very upsetting."

The commissioner further said an league probe into the player's conduct in spring 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he played for the Hornets versus the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"We were informed by the regulators and the gambling firms," he added.

"We then looked into that situation and were very transparent about it. And while there was that aberrational betting, we, frankly, couldn't find anything.

"The federal government has subpoena power... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can take various actions that the NBA is unable to.

"So, we've been working with them from that point. Naturally, what they announced yesterday was an indictment.

"Moreover two and a half years later, he has not been found guilty of anything, in justice to Terry.

"Clearly, it doesn't look good, but he's been suspended, and so it is a compromise in this case between protecting people's rights and conducting an inquiry."
