Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
