Russian President Vladimir Putin Assures Uninterrupted Crude Oil Shipments to India in Rebuff of US Pressure

In a unambiguous signal to Western nations, President Vladimir Putin stated to PM Narendra Modi that Russia remains committed to guarantee “uninterrupted” supplies of energy resources to India. The announcement came when Putin and Modi met in the Indian capital and affirmed their relationship were “resistant to external pressure.”

A Statement For the West

The statement, made on Friday, appeared to be a direct challenge at the United States and its allies, which have tried to pressure New Delhi into curtailing its longstanding relations with Moscow. The backdrop comes after previous American measures, notably the introduction of tariffs targeting New Delhi over its acquisition of discounted Russian crude.

“Russia is a dependable source of fuel and anything required for the growth of India’s industry,” he stated. “We are ready to persist in ensuring the consistent flow of energy for the fast-expanding Indian economy.”

Modi, though he did not naming energy specifically, reinforced the theme by noting that “energy security has been a robust and important cornerstone of the Indo-Russian alliance.”

Questioning US Interference

Prior to the meeting, in a television interview, Putin had questioned Washington's stance regarding India's energy purchases. The president questioned, “If the US is entitled to buy our nuclear fuel, how can you deny India have the identical right?”

The visit represented his maiden trip to India since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, and Moscow and Delhi engaged in a visible show to project that the personal rapport between the men remained intact.

A Warm Welcome

In a unusual move, Prime Minister Modi personally greeted Putin right off the plane. Both leaders shared a warm hug as old friends before holding a one-on-one meal on Thursday evening.

He in his statement called India's partnership with Russia as “a guiding star” and added it was “founded on reciprocal esteem and strong faith.”

Strengthening Defence and Economic Cooperation

Friday's talks resulted in multiple significant pacts in the fields of defence and trade relations. A cornerstone agreement was the completion of an economic cooperation programme aimed at 2030, which targets to boost commerce to a hundred billion USD annually by the end of the decade.

The leaders also vowed to reshape their military partnership. Although Russia remains India's primary source of weapons, this role has declined lately as India works to widen its sources.

The official release emphasized an agreement on the collaborative manufacturing of cutting-edge defence platforms, though direct reference of deals for the Sukhoi Su-57 were left out.

Overall, both nations restated that in the “ongoing challenging, tense, and volatile geopolitical situation, Russian-Indian ties remain resilient to outside forces.”
