Texas Top Legal Officer Files Lawsuit Against Acetaminophen Producers Regarding Autism Claims

Courtroom Action
Ken Paxton, who supports former President Trump campaigning for US Senate, claimed the drug companies of withholding the risks of acetaminophen

The top legal official in Texas Ken Paxton is suing the manufacturers of Tylenol, alleging the companies hid alleged dangers that the medication presented to pediatric brain development.

This legal action follows four weeks after Former President Trump publicized an unsubstantiated connection between taking Tylenol - alternatively called acetaminophen - during pregnancy and autism spectrum disorder in children.

The attorney general is taking legal action against the pharmaceutical giant, which once produced the drug, the only pain reliever recommended for pregnant women, and Kenvue, which currently produces it.

In a declaration, he said they "betrayed America by gaining financially from suffering and marketing drugs ignoring the potential hazards."

Kenvue states there is no credible evidence linking Tylenol to autism spectrum disorder.

"These corporations lied for decades, knowingly endangering millions to increase profits," Paxton, from the Republican party, stated.

The manufacturer commented that it was "deeply concerned by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the security of paracetamol and the potential impact that could have on the welfare of women and children in America."

On its website, Kenvue also mentioned it had "regularly reviewed the relevant science and there is lacking reliable evidence that shows a established connection between taking paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder."

Groups speaking for doctors and medical practitioners concur.

The leading OB-GYN organization has stated acetaminophen - the main ingredient in acetaminophen - is among limited choices for women during pregnancy to manage discomfort and elevated temperature, which can pose significant medical dangers if ignored.

"In multiple decades of research on the utilization of acetaminophen in pregnancy, not a single reputable study has definitively established that the use of acetaminophen in any period of gestation causes neurological conditions in offspring," the group said.

The lawsuit references current declarations from the former administration in claiming the medication is potentially dangerous.

Recently, Trump generated worry from health experts when he instructed women during pregnancy to "struggle intensely" not to consume acetaminophen when ill.

Federal regulators then released a statement that doctors should consider limiting the use of acetaminophen, while also stating that "a causal relationship" between the medication and autism spectrum disorder in minors has not been established.

The Health Department head Robert F Kennedy Jr, who manages the Food and Drug Administration, had promised in April to initiate "comprehensive study program" that would identify the origin of autism spectrum disorder in a short period.

But experts warned that finding a unique factor of autism spectrum disorder - thought by researchers to be the outcome of a complicated interplay of inherited and environmental factors - would not be simple.

Autism is a category of enduring cognitive variation and condition that influences how people encounter and relate to the surroundings, and is recognized using medical professional evaluations.

In his legal document, Paxton - a Trump ally who is seeking the Senate - asserts the manufacturer and J&J "intentionally overlooked and sought to suppress the research" around acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder.

This legal action attempts to require the companies "destroy any commercial messaging" that claims acetaminophen is secure for women during pregnancy.

This legal action parallels the grievances of a assembly of mothers and fathers of children with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who sued the manufacturers of Tylenol in recently.

A federal judge rejected the case, stating investigations from the parents' expert witnesses was lacking definitive proof.
