The network's Premier Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who found the show and supported its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
