The blaze engulfed the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Confirmed footage depict the ceiling catching alight as bottles with sparklers are held aloft.

Authorities have indicated that it could take an extended period to identify the fatalities of the tragedy, which resulted in the death of 40 people and injured another scores more. Authorities stated on the latest update that the majority of the injured have been identified, with the process ongoing to name the final individuals.

In the meantime, relatives have been using online platforms to request information about their missing relatives who were at the bar that fateful night.

Appeals for the Unaccounted For
